Working for beautiful harmony for humans, animals and plants
What makes our work in nature restoration perhaps most special is that no two areas are the same. One moment you are working in the middle of a vast moorland where the morning mist still hangs over the water, the next you are standing in a stream valley or marshland where birds, water and vegetation together form a landscape that is constantly changing. It is precisely this dynamism that makes working in wetlands so special.
At Knoop, we feel a strong connection to these types of areas. Not only because we work there, but because we feel it is important to preserve these landscapes for the future. For us, nature restoration is therefore much more than just earth moving or hydraulic engineering. It is understanding how an area functions, which processes are disturbed and how you can contribute to this in a careful way.
Many natural areas are under pressure from desiccation, silting, nitrogen problems or past human interventions. As a result, plants, animals and natural structures are slowly disappearing from the landscape. Natural processes can be restarted by targeted intervention. Examples include excavating cap holes, restoring laying dykes, raising stream bottoms or restoring open landscapes by removing storage and forestry. Work that is technically challenging, but always in the service of the ecosystem itself.
Precisely because these areas are so vulnerable, we believe that the way you do the work is at least as important as the end result. That is why we continuously invest in smart and nature-friendly working methods. With our own developed equipment, such as amphibious excavators with low ground pressure and specialized installations for, for example, stream bed elevation or pumping material, we can carry out work with minimal impact on the environment. Fewer transport movements, less disruption and more control over the work in sensitive areas.
But in the end, the real power is not just in machines or technology. It is in the mentality with which we work. As a team, we genuinely enjoy the areas in which we are allowed to work. The tranquility of the Wieden, the openness of a stream valley or the special flora and fauna you encounter along the way. This feeling also ensures that we always look at an area with respect. We do not just want to carry out a project, but actually contribute to a better living environment for people, animals and plants.
Perhaps that is also the best thing about nature restoration. That after a while you can hardly see that work has taken place. Nature slowly takes over again, as if the area recovers itself. And in the end, that is precisely what we are doing it for.
