Botshol

Botshol, aptly described by the Natuurmonumenten organisation as the jewel of the lowland peatlands, is a unique nature reserve featuring narrow waterways, vast pools and exceptional biodiversity. In this vulnerable area, we have carried out several nature restoration projects to combat afforestation and siltation and to sustainably enhance the quality of the lowland peatland landscape.

Our work included digging potholes, removing self-sown trees and clearing reed beds. These targeted interventions ensure that the area remains open, allow the natural water dynamics to re-establish themselves, and significantly improve conditions for the area’s characteristic flora and fauna.

Our innovative Shredder Dredger was used to carry out the work. This powerful machine can shred, process and pump peat, wood, stumps, vegetation and silt in a single pass. The resulting material is efficiently transported to a storage site via dredging hoses or HDPE pressure pipes. Thanks to this method, large-scale nature restoration works can be carried out quickly, safely and with minimal impact on the environment.

Despite its robust capabilities, the Shredder Dredger is compact. This enables us to work with precision even in narrow waterways and hard-to-reach areas, whilst minimising disruption to the fragile natural environment.

With our specialist knowledge, innovative techniques and meticulously carried-out work, we are helping to preserve and restore Botshol. In this way, we are creating a future-proof nature reserve in which the rich biodiversity is preserved and can continue to thrive.
