Renewable energy at the sand extraction site in Nij Beets

In Nij Beets, situated in the Frisian district of Opsterland, we carried out the anchoring of a floating solar farm comprising approximately 33,000 solar panels. The solar farm has been installed on the sand extraction lake owned by Van der Wiel B.V., giving the lake a sustainable dual function as a site for both sand extraction and the generation of sustainable energy.

For this project, we developed a bespoke mooring system that keeps the floating solar farm secure and stable in position. The ground anchoring system is designed to reliably absorb the forces caused by wind, waves and fluctuating water levels. Thanks to the right combination of anchors, mooring lines and a carefully tailored design, the structure continues to move in a controlled manner under all conditions, thereby minimising the risk of damage. The load capacity of each installed anchor is 10 tonnes, which is suitable for the relatively heavier floating solar farm systems currently available on the market.

Projects such as these highlight the importance of a well-designed anchoring system. A reliable underwater foundation is essential for the lifespan and operational reliability of a floating solar farm. Thanks to our many years of experience and the ongoing development of anchor designs, equipment and working methods, we deliver anchoring solutions that are fully tailored to the specific conditions of each site.

The solar park generates enough renewable electricity each year to supply around 4,000 households with green electricity, thereby contributing to a future-proof energy supply.

The energy transition is bringing about changes to the landscape. With this floating solar farm at this former sand extraction site, we are making smart use of the limited space in our country, which helps build local support
