Below the surface of the water, on or in the bottom, there are anchor points that literally form the foundation on which everything rests. And yet it is precisely this part that is often only discussed when the anchors need to be placed or when the holding power of the anchor threatens to go wrong. A solid anchoring system, for example for a floating solar park, gives direction to the entire project from the start. With Anchor Point, we start a blog in which we reflect on that kind of often less visible, but essential part of our work. We dive into issues that we encounter again and again in practice. Not to sell solutions, but to share our experiences, knowledge and expertise in the field of anchoring systems.
It is often underestimated how important anchoring systems are
Kirsten Kruze
“It is often underestimated how important anchoring systems are, ” says project leader Kirsten Kruze. “Without a solid foundation of a floating construction, risks are taken that are very expensive if a system fails. ”
A statement that has been confirmed several times in the past. Because anchoring is rarely a standard solution. Each location has its own circumstances. The soil conditions, water depth, fluctuation, dynamics of wind, snow, current and accessibility. A good anchor plan therefore does not start with the material, but with understanding what applies at the chosen location.
In the blogs that follow, we take you into the full story behind an anchoring system. Not just what we do, but why we do it that way. We show how a process starts with the first analysis of location and load, how an anchor plan is built up step by step and which choices are decisive in this. From determining the correct anchor type to on-site execution. Every project requires customization. The bottom often tells more than you see at first sight.
We also consider what happens before an anchor goes into the ground. Control and verification are not a formality but an essential part of the process. Calculations are tested, assumptions checked and principles are established. We need this to bear responsibility.
This also includes documentation. Clear reports, insight into taxes, substantiation of choices and clear agreements about guarantees and insurance. You do not give a guarantee lightly; you base this on knowledge of the soil, experience in implementation and the confidence that arises when quality is structurally guaranteed.
We share how we monitor that quality, what we have developed & improved over the past few years, and what collaboration means to us. Because anchoring never stands alone. It is always part of a bigger picture. Partnership plays a big role in this. We don’t work for a project, but with the people who build it.
And yes, we are also going to talk about when an anchoring system can fail. Not to instill fear but to be honest about risk. Because understanding where things can go wrong is exactly what it takes to get it right.
We feel it is important to share this information to not only reflect our knowledge and expertise, but also to substantiate how we got here. The considerations, the questions we ask ourselves, the moments when we decide to do things differently than previously thought of.
Within Knoop, we have a clear mentality in this. If we do it, we do it well. This means not only relying on experience, but also continuing to test, calculate and check. If we guarantee something, we want to be sure that we can deliver on it. No surprises afterwards, but rather being sharp together in advance.
With Anchor Point, we hope to provide insight into a field where there is very little experience and proper knowledge and expertise. We want to share our knowledge and show why anchoring is not an afterthought but an essential part of any floating design.
We value conversations and enjoy hearing from the individuals who are each involved in this industry in their own way.
From anchoring expert, for the floating solar sector.
Part of the organization all her life, but an active part of the (marketing) team for a few years now. Creating value and beautiful content to show why Knoop BV is so valuable for the living environment of people, animals and plants.
Together we are committed to our mission; to provide ingenious solutions for in and around the water.
