Floating equipment certification

A lot of people are not yet familiar with ES-TRIN, an important European regulation for floating vessels. Since 2021, an ES-TRIN certificate is mandatory in many places in Europe to demonstrate the safety and stability of these vessels.

Amphibious excavators fall under the category of floating vessels as well. This means that when Knoop BV operates in these waters with its fleet of Waterking excavators, we are obliged to comply with ES-TRIN regulations. Safety is our top priority, both for our operators and our equipment. Which is why we started getting our fleet of Waterking excavators certified in 2021.

WaWhat is ES-TRIN and where does it come from?

ES-TRIN is a regulation that defines the requirements for floating equipment and vessels to sail and operate on certain European inland waterways. Without an ES-TRIN certificate, it is not allowed to carry out work on these inland waterways.

Where is it mandatory?

ES-TRIN regulations apply on many European inland waterways. Certification is not mandatory for enclosed waters, such as sand excavations or ditches between pastures. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended to use ES-TRIN-certified equipment, as it significantly improves safety and stability.

Besides the visual difference between a certified and non-certified work vessel, ES-TRIN offers other benefits:

Widely applicable – Once classified an ES-TRIN-certified machine can operate on all inland waterways. Non-certified equipment can only be used on confined waters, such as sand excavations.
Improved safety – The improved stability of the larger side pontoons and intermediate pontoons reduces the risk of accidents. And the safety rail reduces the risk of an operator falling overboard.
Greater efficiency – Improved stability and safety ensure more efficient operation and less risk of damage or downtime.
